what kind of therapy is offered?
The primary interventions I use in therapy are Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Below you will find a short introduction on each of these modalities.
COMPASSION FOCUSED THERAPY
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) targets shame and self-criticism as major drivers of distress. This modality is effective for people who have a difficult time being kind to themselves. It provides concrete skills to help develop and practice self-compassion.
ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy – often referred to as ACT – is a modality that teaches people to work with their mind rather than against it. ACT asks you to let go of the tug-of-war happening between you and your thoughts and instead look towards your values. It is action oriented and focused on helping people live the life they want regardless of the thoughts going through their mind.
ACT FOR OCD
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an incredibly challenging disorder that often leaves people feeling trapped. There are some treatments that have been designed specifically for OCD, one of which is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or ACT for OCD. This treatment utilizes values work as a way to bridge the gap between the way our OCD wants us to live and the way we actually want to exist in this world.
